HC Rotterdam is toegetreden tot een consortium van in totaal vijf Europese topclubs en universiteiten. Het consortium heeft als doel om de juiste omstandigheden te scheppen waaronder topsportende studenten enige tijd in het buitenland kunnen studeren terwijl zij daarnaast in staat blijven om op hoog niveau te blijven sporten.

 

De betrokkenheid van HC Rotterdam is een logische vervolgstap op het partnerschap met de Engelse tophockeyclub Beeston HC.

 

Uit onderzoek in opdracht van de Europese Commissie is gebleken dat topsportende studenten internationaal beduidend minder mobiel zijn andere studenten. Het consortium wil in de komende twee jaar een antwoord vinden op de vraag wat er nodig is om ervoor te zorgen dat ook topsporters de vruchten kunnen plukken van een internationale academische ervaring.

 

Het consortium wil voor de hockeysport een blauwdruk maken die ook in andere sporten toepasbaar is.De deelnemende clubs naast HC Rotterdam zijn: Atlétic Terrassa (Spanje), Beeston HC (Engeland), KHC Dragons (België) en Pembroke Wanderers (Ierland). Deelnemende universiteiten zijn de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Nottingham Trent University, de Universiteit Antwerpen en Dublin City University.

 

Deze partijen hebben afgelopen zomer gezamenlijk een subsidie-aanvraag ingediend die onlangs door de Europese Commissie is gehonoreerd waardoor het project nu definitief van start gaat met een kick-off meeting begin februari.

HC Rotterdam has joined a consortium of five European top hockey clubs and five universities. The consortium aims to design a sports and academic exchange program in which elite athletes can participate without detriment to their sporting careers.

 

A study commisioned by the European Commission has learned that elite athletes have less opportunities to participate in international academic exchange programs. The consortium aims to find a solution to the difficulties elite athletes face to participate in exchange programs and to offer these athletes the benefits of international academic experiences. The co-operating European top hockey clubs want to present a blueprint which is applicable to other sports as well.

 

Next to HC Rotterdam the participating hockey clubs are: Atlétic Terrassa (Spain), Beeston HC (England), KHC Dragons (Belgium) and Pembroke Wanderers (Ireland). The participating universities are: Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Nottingham Trent University, Universiteit Antwerpen and Dublin City University.

 

The consortium filed a EU funding application which has been awarded recently. Next month the clubs and universities will have their kick-off meeting.
